Who We Really Are

Not your typical stuffy law firm - we're business people who happen to know the law inside and out

Our Story (The Real Version)

Look, we started Dravion Spire Core Legal back in 2012 because we were tired of seeing businesses get tangled up in legal nonsense that could've been avoided. Too many companies were either overpaying for cookie-cutter advice or getting burned by lawyers who didn't understand how modern business actually works.

"We're not here to rack up billable hours - we're here to solve problems and keep your business moving forward."

Here's what makes us different: we've actually been in the trenches. Our team's worked with startups that became household names, family businesses going through tough transitions, and mid-sized companies navigating complex mergers. We've seen what works and what doesn't, and we're not afraid to tell you straight up.

These days, we're known for corporate law and commercial litigation, but really we're problem solvers who happen to specialize in keeping businesses out of legal hot water. Whether you're signing a major contract, dealing with a dispute, or planning your next growth phase - we've got your back.

Meet The Team

Sarah Chen

Sarah Chen

Managing Partner

Sarah's been practicing corporate law for 18 years and she's seen pretty much everything. Started her career at one of those big Bay Street firms, but left because she wanted to actually talk to clients like real people. She's handled M&A deals worth over $2 billion combined and has this weird ability to explain complex legal stuff in plain English. Outside the office? She's probably at a Raptors game or trying out whatever new restaurant just opened downtown.

"I tell my clients - if you don't understand what I'm saying, that's on me, not you. Law shouldn't be a mystery."

Marcus Rodriguez

Marcus Rodriguez

Senior Litigation Partner

Marcus is the guy you want in your corner when things get messy. He's won cases that other lawyers said were unwinnable, and he's got this reputation for being brutally honest about your chances - which clients actually appreciate. Been doing commercial litigation for 15 years, and before law school, he actually ran a small manufacturing business, so he gets the real-world pressures you're dealing with. Fair warning though - he'll tell you when settling makes more sense than fighting.

"Winning isn't always about going to trial. Sometimes the smartest move is knowing when to negotiate."

Jennifer Park

Jennifer Park

Corporate Counsel Partner

Jennifer joined us in 2016 after spending years as in-house counsel for a tech company, so she knows exactly what it's like to be on the client side. She specializes in corporate governance and compliance - yeah, the "boring" stuff that actually keeps you out of serious trouble. Her clients love her because she doesn't just tell them what they can't do, she finds ways to make things work. She's also got a Master's in Business Administration, which means she actually understands your P&L statements.

"Good compliance isn't about saying no - it's about finding the path that works legally AND makes business sense."

David Thompson

David Thompson

Employment & IP Counsel

David's our go-to for employment law and intellectual property protection - two areas where businesses constantly step on landmines without realizing it. He's helped companies navigate everything from wrongful dismissal claims to patent disputes. What sets him apart? He actually worked in HR for five years before going to law school, so he understands the human side of employment issues, not just the legal theory. Plus, he's a total nerd about IP law, which is exactly what you want when protecting your business assets.

"Your employees and your intellectual property are your biggest assets - you'd be amazed how many companies leave both vulnerable."

How We Got Here

2012 - The Beginning

Toronto, ON

Sarah and Marcus decided to break away from the traditional firm model. Started with a small office on King Street and three clients who took a chance on us. We were basically running on coffee and determination back then.

2014 - First Major Win

Ontario Superior Court

Marcus won a commercial dispute case that put us on the map. The client was a mid-sized manufacturer facing a $3.2M claim, and we not only got it dismissed but secured a counter-judgment. Word spread pretty fast after that.

2016 - Growing The Team

Bay Street Expansion

Jennifer Park joined us, bringing her in-house counsel experience and corporate governance expertise. Same year, we moved to our current offices on Bay Street - bigger space, but we kept the same approach: no BS, just solid legal work.

2018 - Milestone Achievement

Practice Expansion

Hit 200+ active clients and brought David on board to handle our growing employment law and IP needs. Also completed our largest M&A advisory project to date - a $145M acquisition that took 14 months but went through smoothly.

2021 - Pandemic Pivot

Remote Operations

Like everyone else, we had to adapt fast. Helped dozens of clients navigate the legal chaos of COVID-19 - employment issues, contract disputes, government programs. Realized we could serve clients effectively without always needing face-to-face meetings.

2023 - Recognition

Industry Awards

Canadian Lawyer Magazine recognized us as one of the top boutique corporate law firms in Ontario. We don't usually care much about awards, but this one felt good because it came from peer recognition and client feedback.

2025 - Today

Still Growing

We're now a team of 15 including associates and support staff, serving 450+ clients across Ontario and beyond. Still in the same Bay Street offices, still committed to straightforward legal advice that actually helps businesses succeed.

Our Approach (No Fluff)

We don't do legal jargon for the sake of sounding smart. We don't drag things out to bill more hours. And we definitely don't treat you like you're interrupting our day when you call with questions.

What we do: listen to what you're actually trying to accomplish, figure out the legal landscape, and give you clear options with honest pros and cons. Then we execute efficiently and keep you in the loop without drowning you in unnecessary details.
